Madame Tussauds Budapest is on Dorottya utca, a pedestrian-scale street between Vörösmarty tér and the Danube in District V. The fastest way in is the M1 metro to Vörösmarty tér, about 120 m from the door; the nicest is tram 2 along the river to Vigadó tér; and driving is the one way the museum itself asks you not to come.
The last 120 metres are on foot whichever way you come, because Dorottya utca sits in the traffic-calmed centre of Pest. This page covers each route, the buses the museum lists, parking, and the step-free way in.

By public transport
The museum sits between two metro stations and the embankment tram, so the BKK network covers it from every direction.
By metro
- M1 (yellow line), Vörösmarty tér: the closest, about 120 m away. Come up onto the square and walk west along Dorottya utca, away from the square. Stairs only.
- M1, M2 and M3, Deák Ferenc tér: about 330 m to the east. The museum’s own directions call it a five-minute walk. This is the city’s main interchange and the one to use from the railway stations: the M2 from Keleti and Déli, the M3 from Nyugati. The M3 platforms have a lift.
Buy a single ticket, a 24-hour travel card or a Budapest Card before boarding; single tickets must be validated before you travel.
By tram
- Tram 2: the river cruise you can ride on a transport ticket. It runs along the Pest side of the Danube past the Parliament and the Chain Bridge. Get off at Vigadó tér and walk one block inland, about 200 m.
By bus
The museum’s own directions list buses 15, 105, 115 and 178. Bus 178 ends at Deák Ferenc tér M, and bus 15 calls there too on its run through the centre; bus 105 links Buda with the centre of Pest. From Deák Ferenc tér it is the same 330 m walk as from the metro.
- Bus 100E: direct from Liszt Ferenc International Airport to Deák Ferenc tér M. It needs its own ticket.
On foot
The museum is in the flattest, most walkable part of Pest. The distances below are straight lines from our map, so the walk itself is a little longer.
From Vörösmarty tér (about 120 m)
Dorottya utca runs off the square. Walk down it away from the square and the palace’s entrance is a couple of minutes at most.
From the Chain Bridge (about 460 m)
From the Pest end of the bridge at Széchenyi István tér, head south with the river on your right and cut inland to Dorottya utca. Flat all the way.
From St. Stephen’s Basilica (about 530 m)
Head south from the Basilica’s square, cross József Attila utca, and continue down through the grid to Dorottya utca. The Basilica, the museum and the Chain Bridge make a natural afternoon triangle.
From the Budapest Eye (about 240 m)
The big wheel on Erzsébet tér is the closest landmark. Walk west across the square towards Vörösmarty tér and on into Dorottya utca.
By car and taxi
The nearest car park we can vouch for is the underground Bazilika Garázs under the west end of Szent István tér, about 500 m away. Taxis and Bolt, the main rideshare app in Budapest, can bring you to the edge of the pedestrian zone; ask for “Dorottya utca, Vörösmarty tér”.
Accessibility
- The museum describes itself as fully accessible and sells a reduced ticket for disabled visitors and one companion, on site, on showing a disability card
- Pushchairs are welcome up to 90 cm wide
- Step-free metro: the M3 platforms at Deák Ferenc tér have a lift to the street. The M1 station at Vörösmarty tér has stairs only, and the M2 platforms at Deák Ferenc tér are not step-free
- Trams and buses: tram 2 is not on BKK’s list of lines run with low-floor trams; over 90% of Budapest’s buses are low-floor
- Ask at the desk in the ticket hall about the easiest way through the building if you need step-free access, or email the museum beforehand
