Best times to visit
Time of day
The first hour after opening, from 10:00, is the calmest. The sets that draw a queue (Sissi’s carriage, the throne, Tom Cruise’s bike) are free, and you can take your time on each one.
Late afternoon on a weekday is the next best, but count back from last entry: 17:00 on most days, 19:00 on a Saturday. Arrive an hour and a half before it if you want the full visit.
Day of the week
Weekdays are the quiet days, and school terms are quieter still. Weekends are busier, and Saturday is the only day with evening slots, which is the reason to choose it if you cannot come on a weekday.
Sunday keeps the shorter 18:00 close, so the last slot starts at 17:00.
Season
This is an indoor attraction in the middle of the city, so it fills when the weather turns: wet afternoons in any season, and hot summer afternoons. Winter mornings are the quietest time of the year to have the sets to yourself.
School holidays bring local families as well as visitors. Christmas and New Year, Easter and the summer break are the weeks to book a morning slot ahead.

Insider tips
Use the Saturday evening if mornings are impossible
The 20:00 close on Saturdays means the last slot starts at 19:00, the only evening slot of the week. It is the fallback if a weekday morning will not work, and it leaves the daylight free for Buda.
Check the website in the week you travel
The days the museum closes early for events, and the maintenance days when it does not open at all, are posted on its own site in advance. If your slot lands on one, your partner ticket can be moved or cancelled free up to 24 hours ahead.
Last entry is the time that matters
The last slot starts an hour before closing, and you cannot go in early or more than 15 minutes late for a slot. Book the slot you can actually make, not the last one available.
