Two guided tours take you onto Margaret Island, and only one of them is about it. The electric vehicle tour rides out from central Pest on an EZRaider, a four-wheeler you ride yourself, and makes the island its whole subject for two hours, there and back. The other is a Segway tour of the city centre that crosses Margaret Bridge for its final stop.
Neither is a ticket in, since the island is free. Both start in District V and bring you back there. This page covers what each one does on the island, who can book it, and which one fits your trip.

Margaret Island tickets
No ticket is sold for Margaret Island itself, because it is a public park you can walk onto from either bridge at any hour. The only two places on it that charge are the Palatinus lido and the lookout in the Water Tower, and neither tour includes them.
For Palatinus, GetYourGuide sells a full-day admission ticket. The Water Tower lookout is free with the Budapest Card. Our Palatinus guide covers the lido, and our Margaret Island guide everything on the island that costs nothing.

Types of tour
The electric vehicle tour of Margaret Island

This tour is about the island from start to finish. You meet the guide at the operator’s shop on Pilvax köz in District V, get on an EZRaider, an electric four-wheeler, and ride out to the island together.
Its listing names the stops: the pedestrian promenades, the musical fountain, the ruins of the convent and the small zoo, with a break for the views and some time in the quieter parts of the island to try out what the vehicle can do. The guide covers the island’s history as you go, and the ride ends back at the shop.
Bear in mind that two of those stops are seasonal. The fountain is shut for a rebuild from 1 October 2026, with its operator planning to start the new season in May 2027, and the small zoo is closed in winter, so out of season those are two things the tour passes rather than visits.
Take it if you want a guide to the island rather than a glimpse of it. The island is the whole point of the ride, not a stop on the way back to town.
The Segway tour that finishes on the island

This one is a tour of central Pest first. It opens with a 10-minute safety briefing and training at Galamb utca 3, then rides past St Stephen’s Basilica, Liberty Square and the Parliament, with a photo stop there, before crossing Margaret Bridge.
On the island the listing names the Japanese garden at the north end, the Dominican convent ruins, Saint Michael’s Chapel and the water tower, with a break and a photo stop. The way back runs along the Buda bank, with the Parliament across the water, to finish where you began.
The itinerary gives the island one 10-minute stop out of the 1 hour 45, with a break, a photo stop and a ride. Book it for the Basilica, the Parliament and the riverside, and treat the island as a last look rather than the reason to go.
How to choose
The island, or the city with the island at the end
If you want Margaret Island itself explained, from the promenades to the convent ruins and the small zoo, take the electric vehicle tour. The whole ride and the guide’s commentary are about the island.
If this is an early day in Budapest and you would rather see the Basilica, the Parliament and the riverside on the same outing, take the Segway tour, and leave the rest of the island for a free afternoon on foot.
How many of you there are
This decides it for most people. The electric vehicle tour needs at least four people in one booking, so it suits a family or a group of friends, and it takes children from the age of one, with a child seat included.
The Segway tour works the other way round. It takes nobody under 9, but a couple or a solo traveller can book it, in a small group of up to eight, and the private option suits a party that would rather have the guide to itself.
Which time of year to go
Both tours are outdoors from start to finish, so the weather on the day matters more than the month. The Segway tour supplies ponchos if it rains and gloves in winter. The electric vehicle tour lists no weather gear, so dress for an open vehicle.
In winter the island is the promenades, the ruins and the trees, without the small zoo, and without the fountain until it reopens.
How to book
Count your party first
Four or more, and the electric vehicle tour is open to you. Fewer than four, and go straight to the Segway tour.
Check the calendar for your dates
The electric vehicle tour runs on selected days and must be booked at least 8 hours ahead. When we checked on 1 October 2026, its calendar offered Mondays only through October and November, while the Segway tour had every date open. Open the calendar before you plan a day around either.
Pick the language as you book
The electric vehicle tour runs in English, Hungarian, Spanish or Hebrew, and the Segway tour in English, German, French, Spanish, Russian or Hungarian. Choose it in the booking form rather than assuming English.
Go to District V, not to the island
Both tours start in central Pest and ride out from there. For the electric vehicle tour, look for the shop entered from the Pilvax köz pedestrian street, with photos of the vehicles in the windows. For the Segway tour, the address is Galamb utca 3. Both leave you back at the start, so there is no return journey to plan.
