A whole garden suburb turns into a garage sale

Residents of the Wekerle estate open their courtyards to second-hand sellers for a day, in a century-old garden suburb that is worth a wander anyway. It is run by volunteers.
About the event
Twice a year, the local Wekerle community association (WEKI) turns the estate into what it calls Budapest's biggest community market. Residents host sellers in their courtyards, so you walk the leafy streets from one yard to the next. Children's things are a big part of what is on offer.
The week before, an online map goes up showing where to find the courtyards taking part, plus coffee, lunch and toilets. Dogs are welcome, and there are things for children to do, from lucky dips to temporary tattoos. The association also collects donations for local causes.
