Verzió International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival
16 to 25 November

More than eighty documentaries over ten days, opening at Trafó with Papa, a Hungarian film about a stubborn grandfather, his sons and the housing system. Screenings fill the Toldi and the Művész and reach eight cities beyond Budapest.
About the event
The Verzió Film Foundation has run this with the Blinken OSA Archivum since 2004, and more than 275,000 people have seen its films. This round asks what a documentary is worth in an age of deepfakes and manipulated pictures, under the slogan "Do I believe it when I see it?".
Alongside the Hungarian and international competitions, the programme takes in colonial legacies, the ecological crisis, the war in Ukraine and violence against women, with particular attention to Roma film-makers and Roma communities. Screenings come with question and answer sessions, and talks and music events run at the Centrális Gallery and at Central European University. The opening film is in Hungarian with English subtitles.
