The Magic Flute at the Opera House
29 November to 13 December

Miklós Szinetár's staging of Mozart's singspiel, built around the symbols in the piece and ending with the sun coming up. It is given in German and Hungarian, with surtitles in English.
About the event
Tamino and the bird catcher Papageno are sent by the Queen of the Night to rescue her daughter Pamina from Sarastro, and the rescue turns into a set of trials that teaches both young people something about who sent them and why. Szinetár directs and also compiled the Hungarian text, from Zsolt Harsányi's translation. Péter Horgas designed the sets, Rita Velich the costumes and András Nádasdy the choreography, and the Opera's orchestra and chorus play, with the Children's Chorus. Surtitles also run in Hungarian and German. Two acts with one interval, and the house does not recommend it for children under 10.
