Sustainability weekend at the Skanzen

The open air museum north of Budapest gives a weekend to what old village households managed without: no chemicals, no packaging, no mains power. Plant dyeing, beeswax wraps and a mill turned by hand, spread across three of its village districts.
About the event
The thread running through it is how much of the sustainability argument the countryside had already settled. Alongside the crafts there are seed grinding on a hand mill, woven bird boxes and feeders, honey and syrup tastings, waste sorting games and a screen free grove with storytelling and board games. Yoga runs three times over the day, with beanbags and oversized furniture for anyone who would rather just sit. Two guided tours are free, one led by a curator through the sustainability exhibition, the other on everyday objects built to last. The bike tour has to be booked ahead. A free museum minibus shuttles to the Vasúti villasor stop in Szentendre.
