Nicola Coughlan and Éanna Hardwicke in Synge's comedy about a young man who walks into Pegeen Flaherty's pub claiming he has killed his father, and finds himself the local hero.

About the event

Synge was a leading figure in the Irish literary revival of the early twentieth century, and this is his best known play, a satirical comedy with a loud sense of humour. Caitríona McLaughlin directs a staging that ran at the Lyttelton in London through the winter, and the Uránia shows the recording made there rather than a live relay, in English with English subtitles. The cast takes in Siobhán McSweeney as the Widow Quin, Lorcan Cranitch as Michael Flaherty, Declan Conlon as Old Mahon and Marty Rea as Shawn Keogh. It plays in the Díszterem, the Uránia's grand hall. Students, pensioners and teachers pay a reduced rate.
