NT Live: Les Liaisons Dangereuses at the Uránia
Tuesday 20 October

Marianne Elliott's new staging of Christopher Hampton's Les Liaisons Dangereuses, recorded at the National Theatre in London and shown in English with English subtitles. Lesley Manville and Aidan Turner play the two schemers. It runs 180 minutes.
About the event
Hampton adapted Choderlos de Laclos's novel for the stage and went on to win an Oscar for the screenplay of the 1988 film. The Marquise de Merteuil presses her former lover, the Vicomte de Valmont, to ruin young Cécile de Volanges before her wedding night, while Valmont sets his sights on the virtuous Madame de Tourvel. Their alliance curdles into a contest that destroys everyone in its way. Elliott, who directed Angels in America, moves the action into the salons of the very rich, where one wrong step means disgrace. The recording comes from the Lyttelton Theatre, with Hannah van der Westhuysen as Cécile and Monica Barbaro as Madame de Tourvel. Students, pensioners and teachers pay a reduced rate.
