Michaelmas cattle drive at Dinnyés

Hungarian grey cattle and racka sheep come off the summer pasture and head for their winter quarters, and Duna-Ipoly National Park walks a group out with them. The birds that live off the grazing herds are half the reason to go.

About the event

Michaelmas was the day shepherds settled up with the owners of the stock, and the morning keeps the habit of it: the guide takes stock too, of whether the animals came through the season clear of disease and predators. The park grades it an easy walk, roughly three kilometres over three hours across open pasture, and there is time to look at the birds that keep company with grazing livestock. Booking ahead is required, with tickets sold online and at the meeting point. The walk is led in Hungarian.
