Met Live in HD: Verdi's Macbeth at the Uránia
17 to 25 October

A new Metropolitan Opera staging of Verdi's Shakespeare opera, with Lise Davidsen as Lady Macbeth and Quinn Kelsey in the title role. The Uránia takes the live relay from New York on the Saturday and repeats it on the Sunday of the following week.
About the event
Louisa Proske directs and the Met's music director, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, conducts. Verdi follows the soldier and his wife as they take the Scottish throne and then try to hold on to it, with Kelsey's Macbeth haunted by the killings that put him there and Davidsen's Lady Macbeth pushing the pair of them towards ruin. Kelsey has built a career on Verdi roles and Davidsen is one of the leading dramatic sopranos working. Freddie De Tommaso sings Macduff and Ryan Speedo Green is Banquo, the friend who becomes a victim. Latecomers can only take a seat on the upper side gallery until the interval.
