Free folk sessions at the Fonó

Open sessions you can simply walk into. Sit at the back, or bring an instrument and join in.
About the event
The Fonó's Tuesday sessions are modelled on the group playing at folk music camps, and beginners, seasoned players and listeners are all welcome. On 22 September the string session is led by violinist László Porteleki's Poros Jam. The Pest Csángó Friends' Association then hosts an evening of Gyimes tunes, singing and dancing, where a flute, fiddle or ütőgardon is welcome. Later, Anikó Barna, who teaches folk music at the Bartók Conservatory, leads a zither session, and zithers should be tuned in C.
On 29 September the string session returns, followed by the monthly Moldavian session with Kinga Korsós on koboz and vocals and Vajk Gyulai on flute. Expect familiar and lesser-known dance tunes, and some song teaching.
