English subtitles at the Nemzeti Színház
10 to 14 October

The National Theatre marks two performances with English subtitles: Marx's Capital, its tragicomedy about Karl Marx, and Bánk bán, one of the three Hungarian classics the theatre keeps on permanently. Both are on the main stage.
About the event
Marx's Capital starts from Marx's contradictory life and the book he wrote in close partnership with his friend Friedrich Engels, and puts the argument on stage as a tragicomedy, a danse macabre with farce running through it. Zoltán Rátóti plays Marx and Miklós H. Vecsei plays Engels, and Attila Vidnyánszky directs. The theatre warns of strong light, sound and wind effects, and runs a guided tour an hour before curtain-up. Bánk bán is József Katona's tragedy of a viceroy undone by court intrigue and by his wife's disgrace, also directed by Vidnyánszky, with Sándor Berettyán in the title role. It lasts two hours fifty minutes with one interval.
