Budapest Fafesztivál, the city's tree festival
15 to 17 October

Three days spent looking at the city's trees, from a photography show about its oldest survivors to a public planting in Szent István Park. Everything is free, and everything but the planting wants a place booked first.
About the event
This is the second edition, put together by the Nature-Based Solutions HUB, the 10 Million Trees movement and the Urbanum urban research foundation with volunteer experts. The opening evening sets a panel on what is happening to Budapest's trees alongside an exhibition of Márton Kállai's photographs of veteran trees, then closes with harp playing and tree legends. The two full days belong to guided walks in districts all over the city, led by foresters, arborists, botanists and local historians, with a climbing demonstration visitors can try for themselves and a communal planting and rain dance. The programme is in Hungarian. Walks go ahead in rain, and starting points are sent out after you register.
