A free exhibition on László József Bíró, who invented the ballpoint pen and also an automatic gearbox and an electromagnetic transmission device later used on Japan’s high-speed railway.
About the event
Organised by the Foundation for Hungarian Innovation, the exhibition sets out to show a wide-ranging inventor whose name is little known outside South America. Among his early inventions from the late 1920s and 1930s is a home steam washing machine that ran off the kitchen stove. The electromagnetic device dates from 1936, some 50 years before it went into Japanese use.
Bíró was forced to emigrate by persecution in the 1930s and settled in Argentina, where he went on inventing. The opening is at 18:00 on the first evening, with Sándorné Demján and a representative of the Argentine Embassy, and the exhibition is then open daily from 10:00 to 18:00.
