Battleship Potemkin at the Bem Mozi
Thursday 15 October

Eisenstein's 1925 silent film about a mutiny at sea and a massacre on shore, with Hungarian and English subtitles. It is the fifth instalment of the Bem's golden age of silent film strand.
About the event
The film works from something that happened. During the Russian revolution of 1905 the crew of the battleship Knyaz Potyomkin Tavricheskiy turned on their officers, and the street demonstration that followed in Odessa ended in a police massacre. What Eisenstein made of it is one of the most influential films ever shot. Aleksandr Antonov, Vladimir Barskiy and Grigoriy Aleksandrov head the cast. At 75 minutes in black and white it is a short evening, and Béla Tarr's Werckmeister Harmonies follows at the same cinema later the same night, on its own ticket.
