Lumina Park is open from 20 October 2026 to 7 March 2027, Tuesday to Sunday, from around sunset until 21:00. That is the simple version, and it holds for most of the season.
The opening time is the part that moves. It follows sunset, so it goes from 17:30 in the first week to 16:30 once the clocks go back, then later again from the end of January. Christmas adds an extra hour in the evening, and a handful of dates are closed altogether.

Lumina Park at Christmas and New Year
The park keeps longer hours over the holidays, and apart from Christmas Eve it runs straight through them.
- 22 and 23 December: 16:30 to 22:00
- 24 December: closed
- 25 December to 10 January: 16:30 to 22:00 every day, including New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day and the Mondays 28 December and 4 January
Last entry is at 21:00 on those evenings. What else is open across the holidays, and when: what’s open over Christmas and New Year. For the city’s other lights, the Christmas trams and a lights walk: Christmas lights in Budapest.
Best times to visit
Time of evening
Straight after opening is the quietest time on the trail, and the queues at the photo spots build through the evening.
The gates open around sunset, so for most of the season the first half hour is twilight, and only in December is the sky dark from the moment you walk in. For the lights against a dark sky, arrive about half an hour after opening, or nearer 18:30 in the opening week. Whenever you go, be through the gate by last entry, an hour before closing.
Day of the week
Tuesday to Thursday is our pick. The park charges less from Monday to Thursday than from Friday to Sunday, and the midweek evenings are when you are most likely to have the trail to yourself.
Plan round Mondays, when the gates stay shut for all but the two Christmas Mondays. A weekend is fine if it is the only evening you have; go at opening.
Season
November and early December are the easy weeks, ahead of the Christmas holidays.
The stretch from 25 December to 10 January has the longest hours, with the city on holiday. January and February bring the coldest nights, so dress for a whole evening outdoors.
How long to spend
The park puts the 1.5 km trail at 1.5 to 2 hours, and the only limit it sets is closing time.
About an hour, at a steady walk
Enough for the whole loop, with photos at the pieces you like best.
Two hours, with children
Time for the playground, the carousel and a hot drink at the food stop.
Half an hour more for the journey
Bus 26 across the island at each end, and the wait for it on the way back.
