Why book ahead
- The bath’s own reason for selling online is to save you the queue at the ticket desk, which is worst at weekends and on public holidays
- A ticket bought here can be cancelled, one of them up to 24 hours ahead and the other until late the night before
- A ticket does not guarantee immediate entry when the bath is full. It asks you to arrive one to two hours earlier than you planned on a busy day, and a booked ticket means one queue instead of two
- Lukács fills up on public holidays, when it runs on weekend hours and the whole city has the day off
Ticket types
The full-day spa ticket
This is the ticket most visitors want: entry for the whole day, with the use of a cubicle or a locker depending on what is free when you arrive. You present the voucher at the entrance and swap it for the proxy watch that opens your locker.
It has free cancellation up to 24 hours ahead, and you can reserve now and pay later, which is why it is the one we put first.
The same admission, held later
The Tiqets ticket is the same entry to the same bath, and what separates it is the deadline. You can cancel or move it until 23:59 on the day before your visit. Spa treatments, massages, food and drinks are not in it, and neither is the Sauna World.
Tiqets also sells the admission bundled with a Danube sightseeing cruise, or with skip-the-line entry to St Stephen’s Basilica, at a small discount on the pair. Both bundles use this same bath ticket, so buy one only if you want the other half.
What you choose between, and what changes the price
- Locker or cabin. A locker comes with the ticket. A cabin is a private changing room you keep for the day, and it costs more, so the choice is about luggage and privacy rather than security. Neither is somewhere the bath takes responsibility for your things
- Weekday or weekend. The bath prices Monday to Thursday one way and Friday to Sunday, plus public holidays, another. The weekend band is dearer
- Pools only, or pools and the Sauna World. The Sauna World is never in a standard ticket
- Who you are. Seniors and students pay less with the right identification, and the bath’s student discount wants an international student card
The Sauna World ticket
The Sauna World is the bath’s separate sauna suite, and it is sold as a supplement at the desk. Six rooms sit inside: a salt crystal sauna, an aroma steam room, an infrared sauna, a Finnish sauna, a naturist sauna and a tepidarium.
The bath’s rule is short and worth reading before you buy. It is a bathing-suit-free zone. Your own sheet, towel or sauna dress is compulsory in the saunas, and nothing is hired at Lukács, so bring one.
The bath’s own Complex ticket is the exception that includes it. That one is sold online only, for Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and covers the pools, the saunas and the Sauna World with either a locker or a cabin.
The bath's own tickets, and what to ignore
The bath sells an adult entry ticket, the Complex ticket above, a senior and student ticket, a Sauna World supplement and a 15-visit seasonal pass, along with gift vouchers. The pass and the vouchers only make sense if you live here.
Its price list also carries an afternoon ticket for the last two hours of the day. The versions actually on sale online are for Budapest residents and for students, and they need a Budapest address card or a student card with photo identification, so do not plan a cheap late visit around it. Those hours start at 17:00 on most days and 20:00 on Tuesday, the late night.
What costs extra inside
- The Sauna World, and a cabin instead of a locker
- Massages. An aroma massage and a refreshing massage, each in 20 and 45-minute lengths, from the age of 14, sold with a bath ticket. The aroma one comes in peppermint and rosemary, aloe vera or pomegranate. There is no Swedish or premium massage here
- Towels, bathrobes, swimsuits, caps and slippers, sold at the bath. Rental services are not available
- A safe for valuables, and a charge if you lose the proxy watch
- Food and drink at the Lukács Espresso Bar, which takes cards only
- Medical treatments such as mud packs, carbonated baths and underwater jet massage, which run on weekdays by appointment made in person at the patient desk
Where to buy Lukács tickets
Online: the full-day spa ticket and the Tiqets admission are the two partner products, and both arrive as a voucher on your phone. The bath sells its own tickets on its website, and the Complex ticket is sold there and nowhere else.
On the day: the desks in the entrance hall sell tickets while there is room, including when the online ones have gone, and they close an hour before the bath does. This is also the only way to use a Budapest Card, which cannot be redeemed online, and the only place to add the Sauna World or a cabin.
Before you go
- Nobody under 14 is admitted, to any part of the bath
- Your ticket is for the day you book it, and it runs until the bath closes
- Ticketing ends an hour before closing, and the pool areas have to be cleared 20 minutes before
- Slippers are compulsory, and a swimming cap in the two swimming pools
- Showering with hot water and soap before and after the pools is a house rule
- Nothing is hired. Towels, robes, caps and slippers are on sale, and that is the only way to get one
- Pay by card inside the bath, where cash is not taken in the shops or the buffet
