The Royal Ballet's Manon on screen at the Uránia
Sunday 8 November

Kenneth MacMillan's Manon from Covent Garden, in the Uránia's grand hall. It is a recording rather than a live relay, and runs 190 minutes with two intervals.
About the event
This opens the Uránia's Royal Ballet season, which runs on through the winter and spring. Yasmine Naghdi dances Manon and William Bracewell her Des Grieux, with Koen Kessels conducting Massenet's music in Martin Yates's orchestration and sets by Nicholas Georgiadis. MacMillan made the ballet out of Abbé Prévost's novel, and it turns on a young woman caught between a student who loves her and the money of 18th-century Paris. The screening is in English. Once it has started, the only seats left to take are in the upper side gallery, and latecomers can move to their own at the interval.
