Penny Santa Run in central Budapest

Thousands of runners in red suits and white beards take over the streets of central Budapest for an afternoon. The suit and the beard come with your entry, and there are three distances to pick from.

About the event

The Budapest Sports Office runs it, and this is the eleventh edition. Runners come in from hundreds of towns across the country, and the whole field turns out dressed identically, which is most of the appeal. The 5 km is the longest of the three and goes off in two waves. The 2.3 km suits walkers and joggers as much as runners, and the 900 m family race puts children and their parents on the course together. Times are not the point at any distance. Everyone who finishes gets a medal made for the year, you can sign up as a charity runner on any of the distances, and the organisers publish the event and its registration in English.
