Mozart's Requiem at St Stephen's Basilica
Monday 2 November

An All Souls' Day gala in the Cathedral Organ Concerts series, with four soloists, a mixed choir and a chamber orchestra.
About the event
András Virágh conducts, with Orsolya Gheorghita, Zsuzsanna Gion, Botond Pál and Boldizsár Zajkás singing and the ETUNAM Mixed Choir and Solti Chamber Orchestra behind them. The evening opens with Bach's Toccata, Air and Fugue in D minor on the basilica's great pipe organ, an instrument heard only at this series of concerts, and the Requiem follows. Nobody knows who commissioned it, Mozart's pupil Süssmayr finished it after his death, and the Salieri story told in Amadeus is only one of the theories about how it came to be. No one under six is admitted.
