Liszt: Christus at Müpa

Christus, the oratorio Liszt wrote on the life of Christ, closes the Liszt Fest at Müpa. Three hours of it, sung by five soloists and two choirs.
About the event
As a young man Liszt wrote that the church music of the future would unite the theatre and the church, the dramatic and the sacred, the stormy and the calm. A critic who heard Christus in Budapest in 1938 called it the music of the celestial realm.
Gergely Kesselyák conducts the Pannon Philharmonic with the Hungarian National Choir, whose choirmaster is Csaba Somos, and the Jubilate Girls' Choir under Borbála Sapszon. The Hungarian, Austrian, Slovak and Swiss soloists are Adriana Kučerová, Szilvia Vörös, Mauro Peter, Adrian Eröd and Miklós Sebestyén. The festival gives the production twice, with Kesselyák on the rostrum both times, first at the Musikverein in Vienna and then here a few days later.
