Kirill Gerstein and the Luxembourg Philharmonic
Wednesday 4 November

The Luxembourg Philharmonic returns with Martin Rajna newly installed as its music director. Kirill Gerstein is the soloist in Bartók's Third Piano Concerto, probably the most popular of his concertos.
About the event
Müpa is producing the concert. Debussy's Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun opens the evening and the Bartók follows. After the interval Rajna conducts his own selection of movements from Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet suites, beginning with the Dance of the Knights and ending at Juliet's tomb. Gerstein is Russian-American, has a warm relationship with Budapest audiences and trained under the Hungarian pianist Ferenc Rados. The orchestra last played here in 2023. It runs about two and a half hours with one interval.
