Iván Fischer and Lisa Batiashvili
13 to 16 November

Iván Fischer builds a concert around birdsong and the case for looking after the planet, and seats his orchestra beneath a large tree to make the point. Three performances, one of them a Saturday matinee.
About the event
The Budapest Festival Orchestra presents all three, rather than Müpa. Rautavaara's Cantus Arcticus opens, a concerto for birds and orchestra written in homage to the Finnish landscape and its wildlife by the composer who led Finnish music through the second half of the twentieth century. Mozart's fifth and last violin concerto follows, with the Georgian violinist Lisa Batiashvili as soloist. After the interval comes Beethoven's Pastoral, which carries its own birdcalls in the woodwind. The programme is the same at each of the three performances. Each performance runs about two hours with one interval.
