Idézőjelek, the Károly Kelemen memorial exhibition
21 October to 10 January

The Műcsarnok's memorial show for Károly Kelemen, who died in 2024, gathers about 150 works and sets out to cover the whole of a career rather than a slice of it.
About the event
Zoltán Rockenbauer has curated it around the periods that decided the work. Kelemen pushed his conceptual experiments of the 1970s as far as showing almost nothing at all, then turned back to the painted panel and to making physical objects. The technique he became known for is his own: hyperrealist images laid on canvas with an eraser and then partly rubbed out, quoting Warhol, Beuys and Pollock while taking them apart. Also here are the tarot card paintings, the teddy bear he raised into a recurring figure, variations on Picasso's Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, a series with glass eyes glued to the canvas, and a video interview with him that has not been shown in public before.
