Wonderful Nativity by the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble
19 to 23 December
The State Folk Ensemble's dancers count down to the night of the Nativity in a staged piece built from folk custom, with a snowman, a snow fairy and a táltos horse among the dancing. Müpa puts it at age four and up, and there are five performances.
About the event
This is a Müpa production. István "Szalonna" Pál is its music director and composer as well as the curator of the programme, Gábor Mihályi directs and shares the choreography with Enikő Kocsis and Dezső Fitos, and Vince Varga's animation plays behind the dancers on Balázs Cziegler's set.
The soundtrack is a recording made by the ensemble's own musicians and guests, sung by Martina Szerencsés and Milán Hetényi. The Budapest Singing School Choir appears as a special guest, with pupils from the Alba Regia Basic Art School and the Tiszavirág Folk Dance Ensemble. Scenes swing between comic and tender. The evening performance runs about an hour and a quarter, and ticket holders park free.
