György Kepes documentary and talk at the Hegyvidék Galéria
Saturday 7 November

Márton Orosz's portrait of the painter who ended up running an art and science laboratory at MIT, shown in English. Art historians and artists pick up its questions round a table afterwards.
About the event
Kepes, who lived from 1906 to 2001, worked across painting, photography, design, writing and teaching, and the film traces the birth of twentieth century media art through him, from the New Bauhaus in Chicago to the Center for Advanced Visual Studies at MIT, where artists worked alongside engineers, physicists, biologists and architects. Archive footage, unseen documents and interviews with former students fill it out. The Canadian and Hungarian co-production runs for 98 minutes and carries Hungarian subtitles, and it took the portrait film prize at the 45th Hungarian Film Week. The screening closes the Light Symposium and a year marking 120 years since Kepes was born. Forty places, ticketed, and not recommended under twelve.
