The Great Liszt Marathon at the Liszt Academy
Sunday 8 November

János Balázs plays nothing but Liszt all day in the Grand Hall, over three concerts that run from late morning to late evening. Each has its own ticket, so a single sitting is as welcome as the lot.
About the event
The Cziffra Festival runs the day, and it is one pianist from start to finish. The morning, Years of Wandering, takes pieces from the Années de pèlerinage with the Dante Sonata, the first Mephisto Waltz, Funérailles, the Spanish Rhapsody, the Isolde transcription after Wagner and the Don Juan reminiscences. The afternoon, The Transcendent, is the twelve Transcendental Études and the six Paganini studies, closing on two concert studies. The evening opens with the B minor Sonata and then works through all nineteen Hungarian Rhapsodies in two blocks. Every concert has an interval or two, the first two running about two and a half hours and the evening a little over three.
