Dedicated Ones: Hungarian women artists

More than 130 works by sixty Hungarian women artists working in the first half of the twentieth century. No Hungarian museum has given them a show on this scale before.
About the event
Anna Kopócsy and Zsófia Drienyovszki have arranged the ground floor temporary space both chronologically and by theme, around the idea of women taking up space: moving out of the domestic sphere and into genres and techniques that had not been theirs. Interiors, nudes, portraits, mothers with children and cityscapes carry most of that. Names you may know include Margit Anna, Noémi Ferenczy, Ilka Gedő, Anna Lesznai, Erzsébet Schaár and Júlia Vajda, along with Judit Reigl, Jolán Gross-Bettelheim and Anton Prinner, who all built careers abroad. Much of the point is the rest: artists such as Mária Barta and Kata Kalivoda, recognised in their own time and dropped from the canon since. It runs as part of the Liszt Festival.
