Coltrane 100
Tuesday 3 November

A five-piece assembled for the centenary of John Coltrane's birth, with the saxophonist Joe Lovano its most senior member. They play his compositions rather than reproduce his records.
About the event
Müpa is producing the concert. Lovano is joined by the Chilean saxophonist Melissa Aldana, the pianist Nduduzo Makhathini, whose playing draws on South African and spiritual traditions, the Grammy-winning bassist Linda May Han Oh and the drummer Jeff "Tain" Watts, who has worked with the Marsalis brothers and with Coltrane's son Ravi. All five have played in Hungary before, though separately rather than together. Coltrane is credited with creating spiritual jazz, and the evening runs about an hour and a half.
