Chaplin: Modern Times with live orchestra
Saturday 7 November

Modern Times on the big screen with Chaplin's own music played live by the Danubia Orchestra under Ábel Tompa.
About the event
Müpa is producing this as part of its Silent, Film, Music series. Chaplin wrote the score himself, which is the reason for hearing it from a symphony orchestra rather than off a soundtrack. The film is usually filed under silent cinema, though not quite accurately. In the closing scene Chaplin sings the Nonsense Song, known as Titine, in invented gibberish, and that was the first time any audience heard the Little Tramp speak. Tompa is one of the younger Hungarian conductors. Before the screening the film historian Márton Kurutz gives a short introduction to the picture and its music, and that talk is in Hungarian.
