Thursday 12 November

Sofia Coppola's Tokyo film, shown from a 35 mm print, in which a fading film star and a young woman adrift in the same hotel become unlikely company.

About the event

Bob Harris has come to Tokyo to shoot a whisky advert and Charlotte is there with a husband who is working; they meet one sleepless night in the hotel bar and spend the nights that follow wandering the city together. Cinema Niche runs Celluloid Nights to put favourite films back on screen the way they were made to be seen, at a time when cinemas project digitally, and this autumn's choices are the films that changed how the programmers thought about cinema when they were at school. The National Film Institute's Film Archive supplied the print. Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson lead, with Giovanni Ribisi and Anna Faris.
