BIFF, the Budapest International Film Festival
24 October to 1 November

The third BIFF puts 45 festival films through the Corvin over nine days, from the titles the awards season is arguing about to a handful of restored older ones. Films that are not in English carry English subtitles as well as Hungarian, and directors stay for questions after some screenings.
About the event
The programme splits five ways. Gala takes the premieres that have been talked about all year, Hungarian features and co-productions among them, and Echoes is the biggest section, with Bloom, Anzix and a four-film Retrospective alongside. Each film's page gives the language and the subtitles, which can differ between the two screenings of the same film, so it pays to check before booking. Tickets are not for numbered seats: the audience takes what is free. Screenings fill the Corvin's four rooms, the festival hub is a café in District IX where most of the industry talks happen, and the Cinescape screenings and the parties are elsewhere.
