Barnabás Kelemen and the Tonkünstler Orchestra at the Liszt Academy
Thursday 5 November

The Austrian orchestra brings Andreas Ottensamer to the Grand Hall to conduct, with Barnabás Kelemen out front for two Bartók works for violin and orchestra.
About the event
Kodály's Dances of Galánta opens the evening, written in 1933 out of a Viennese collection of dances from the town where he spent his childhood and the playing of the Roma musicians he heard there. Bartók's Second Rhapsody keeps the folk thread going, winding Romanian, Ruthenian and Hungarian tunes together, and his First Violin Concerto follows: two movements of sharply different character, written for Stefi Geyer and kept from the public until after her death in 1956. Schubert's Great C major Symphony fills the second half. Festival Academy Budapest and the Liszt Academy Concert Centre put it on together.
