Leif Ove Andsnes and the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester

The resident orchestra of Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie plays the Liszt Fest under Alan Gilbert, with the Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes as soloist.
About the event
The orchestra is a leading symphonic ensemble in northern Germany and shapes the profile of the concert hall it lives in, with its performances broadcast internationally. Its sound was formed by its founder Hans Schmidt-Isserstedt and then by Günter Wand, Christoph Eschenbach, Christoph von Dohnányi and Thomas Hengelbrock. Alan Gilbert has been at the helm since 2019.
Andsnes is the orchestra's resident soloist for the 2026 to 2027 season, and Gilbert calls him one of the most elegant pianists. He opens with Brahms's Piano Concerto No. 2 in B flat major, which Gilbert describes as a lyrical monster. Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 and the second suite from Ravel's Daphnis and Chloé follow the interval.
