Every visit to Cat Museum Budapest is booked for a 90-minute slot, and nobody under 8 gets in. The museum takes small groups so the cats stay calm, which is why it asks everyone to book and why turning up on the day is a gamble.
Two partner tickets cover the ordinary visit, and a third buys a painting workshop with the cats. The entry tickets can be cancelled free up to 24 hours before your slot, so there is no reason to leave it until you are standing outside.

Why book ahead
- The museum says booking is required for every visit, and that entry without one is not guaranteed once a slot is full
- Slots are small, no more than 20 people at a time, so a booking is the only way to know you are going in at the time you turn up
- Both entry tickets can be cancelled free up to 24 hours before, which the museum’s own tickets cannot within 48 hours
- The voucher lives on your phone; nothing to print or collect
Ticket types
Entry ticket with audio guide
The Tiqets ticket, and the one most people want. It covers the 90-minute slot, both floors, the cats and the audio guide in English or Hungarian, and the small souvenir if you score 80 per cent on the tablet quiz. A drink comes with every visit.

Entry ticket with youth and senior rates
The same visit sold by GetYourGuide, with the rates spelled out before you book: adult 13 to 64, youth 8 to 12, senior 65 and over, and “ages 7 and younger are not permitted” printed on the product. A hot drink is included. Pick this one if you are bringing a child of 8 to 12 or want the senior rate shown up front.

Guided acrylic painting workshop
A two-and-a-half-hour cat-themed painting session with a teacher, sold by Tiqets for a date rather than a slot. Included: the workshop, a live guide in English or Hungarian, acrylic paper or canvas, paints, a drink, indoor slippers and, in the product’s words, “special cat companionship”. Groups of no more than 12. Check in at reception five minutes before the start.

Walk-up tickets at the door
The desk sells tickets during opening hours, but only into slots with space, and the museum says entry without a booking is not guaranteed once the maximum for a slot is reached. Its own tickets cannot be changed or refunded within 48 hours of the slot. Fine as a try on a quiet weekday morning; not a plan.
Regulars can buy a nine-visit pass at the desk, in print only, which more than one person may share. The museum sells it, not our partners.
The one rule with no exceptions: age 8
- Nobody under 8 is admitted, whichever ticket you hold. The museum says it cannot deviate from this, and if one child in a family is younger, the family does not go in
- Staff may ask for photo ID if a child’s age is in doubt
- A ticket bought for an under-8 is refunded at 50 per cent by the museum, so check ages before you book
- Children under 12 must be with an adult, and the museum does not look after children while a parent waits outside
Where to buy
Online (recommended): book a date and a slot online. The voucher arrives by email and is all you need at the entrance.
On the door: the desk at Vadász utca 26 sells tickets for slots with space during opening hours, 11:00 to 18:30 every day.
How to book
Check everyone is 8 or over
The museum will not bend on this, and finding out at the door is too late to cancel free.
Choose a weekday slot after 15:00 if you can
The cats sleep through the middle of the day. Later afternoon slots on weekdays gave visitors more cats awake and fewer people in the room.
Save the voucher to your phone
It arrives by email. There is nothing to print.
Arrive on time, not early
The museum cannot admit you before your slot and there is nowhere to wait inside. Fifteen to twenty minutes late is fine; later, ring ahead.
Before you go
- Your ticket is for one slot on the date and at the time you booked, 90 minutes long
- Shoes off at the door. Slippers are provided; you may bring your own, and foot covers are available on request
- Sanitise your hands at the counter before petting a cat. Do not pick the cats up; if one wants a lap, it will jump into it
- Approach a sleeping cat only gently and quietly; no sudden movements, no running, no shouting. You pet them at your own risk
- No dogs, no pushchairs, no suitcases or wheeled bags of any kind
- Photos are welcome and the selfie walls are built for them; no flash
- The drink is one per ticket: tea, coffee, hot chocolate or a soft drink
