Zenél Kispest, street concerts for World Music Day
Thursday 1 October
For one hour Kispest hands its streets, squares and shopping centres over to musicians who all start playing at the same moment. Walk between them and you can hear Irish music, a cello orchestra and a brass band in an afternoon.
About the event
The KMO cultural centre books players with a Kispest connection and starts them together in different corners of the district. The Obsitos brass band, made up of retired military and law enforcement musicians, brings a flashmob and a short set to the KÖKI centre. The cello orchestra of the Szatmári László art school plays at the Wekerle music pavilion on Kós Károly tér, and the Irish-music band Holdkő take the square outside the Skála store.
Running through it all is Mr. Piano, János Vágó, who drives a motorised nineteenth-century piano round the district from midday and stops to play. He ends at the Shopmark centre, where the singer Gyöngyi Haluska joins him.
