Kurosawa's Throne of Blood at the Bem Mozi

Kurosawa's Shakespeare adaptation from 1957, in Japanese with English subtitles. Toshirô Mifune and Isuzu Yamada play out a story of ambition curdling, in black and white and mostly in fog.

About the event

The Bem is working through Kurosawa's films one at a time, and this is the third. The original title is Kumonosu jo, and it runs 110 minutes, shown in the original language with English subtitles rather than dubbed. Mifune and Yamada draw on Noh theatre techniques for their performances, and it is that theatrical style some viewers find less accessible than Kurosawa's better-known films. The cinema does not recommend it for anyone under 16. There is one screening, it is ticketed, and seats are booked through the Bem's own site.
