Rumináció: Dóra Vanda Demcsák’s cows

Life-size cow torsos in metal and papier mâché, each one more eaten away than the last, until nothing is left but the plinth. Dóra Vanda Demcsák builds the show on the parallel between a cow chewing the cud and a mind chewing over the same thought.
About the event
The artist, who works as AVANDA, is after the repeating loop that organises attention around what has already happened instead of finding a way past it. The cow does double duty in that, carrying both the self-consuming side of the process and the archetype of the mother animal, which is where her own family history and what it handed down come in. Four ticketed sessions run alongside the show in Hungarian: an art coaching workshop with a psychologist, a talk between the artist and a broadcaster, an art workshop for adults, and a family making session that takes twenty people and has to be booked ahead. On the Saturday of that family session the gallery closes at midday.
