Budapest International Book Festival

Four days of Hungarian and international publishing under one roof, with Germany, Austria and Switzerland sharing the guest of honour slot and the Irish novelist Colm Tóibín as guest author. Entry costs nothing.
About the event
The Hungarian Publishers' and Booksellers' Association organises the festival, and this is the thirty-first edition. Hundreds of programmes, interviews, conversations and signings fill the halls, with separate sections for children's books and a comics zone.
The German-language guest of honour programme brings Nelio Biedermann, Katja Brandis, Christian Kracht, Melinda Nadj Abonji, Eugen Ruge, Tonio Schachinger and others to Budapest, and the Frankfurt Book Fair joins in. Irish literature is the year's focus, marking fifty years of Irish and Hungarian diplomatic relations. Tóibín, whose novel Brooklyn was filmed in 2015, has his new novel A varázsló out in Hungarian for the festival and is one of its headline speakers. The opening ceremony is on the first afternoon.
